The International Press Corps

Agenda: Reporting on Extremism
Reporting on extremism is one of the most complex tasks for news agencies and media houses. It requires accuracy while avoiding sensationalism, coverage of all narratives while risking personal security and analysis of sensitive issues using the correct terminology. News outlets face a constant challenge of presenting facts that explains important root causes such as marginalisation, political instability and other structural issues, without validating violence that harms the common people.
In today’s world with both traditional media and newer forms of news consumption such as social media and other online platforms, the responsibility to report accurately on these issues becomes even more important. In the International Press Corps delegates will navigate the challenges of contending with political pressures, the rise of far-right extremism, radicalization, and disinformation campaigns. As the line between genuine reporting and propaganda blurs, delegates will realise that the press plays a vital role in the documentation of extremist violence and shaping global perception of it. Thus, in this landscape, the responsibility of the International Press Corps lies not only in reporting events but in shaping narratives that uphold the truth.
